Bethesda is expanding the Fallout 76 experience with the upcoming World Pets update, which allows players to explore and fight alongside animal companions. This feature, currently available for early testing on the PC Public Test Server, aims to populate Appalachia further, building on the developer's long-term efforts to make the world feel more alive.

The test build currently features four pet types: dogs, cats, boars, and deathclaws. Each creature includes a progression system that rewards players with unique passive abilities and customization options as they gain experience. Users can manage their pets through the Pip-Boy, assigning specific behaviors such as passive, defensive, or aggressive stances, similar to mechanics found in World of Warcraft.

While the author found the pet AI functional and comparable to Fallout 4 companions, they noted that the deathclaw provides a greater sense of combat security than the cat. The author expressed personal enthusiasm for the system, suggesting that future additions like bears or mole rats would further enhance exploration.

Beyond pets, the testing session uncovered a previously inaccessible Vault-Tec facility linked to Vault 63. Located near the Slumber Mill in Skyline Valley, this area features an expansive underground city complete with shops and a church. The site appears to be a potential raid location, populated by Lost and eyebot enemies, with the author speculating it may arrive in a future spring update.
