Key information
Warner's upcoming Harry Potter television reboot for HBO aims for high narrative fidelity to the original source material. The project is also demonstrating significant economic ambition as it prepares to bring the franchise back to screens.
According to reports from The Times, the budget for the first half of the debut season is 171 million euros. This figure exceeds the individual budgets of each of the first five films, which were capped at 150 million euros.
If the reported 171 million euros covers the first four episodes, Skydance is spending approximately 42 million euros per chapter. This expenditure nearly doubles the previous record for HBO, which stood at 20 million euros per episode for House of the Dragon.
The full first season will consist of eight episodes adapting the work of J. K. Rowling. While the total cost remains to be seen, the current investment signals HBO's serious commitment to this adaptation.
