Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently tracking for a massive release, with preorder data suggesting it will outperform several major titles from the last six years. According to analysis from Sensor Tower, the game is pacing 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which previously held the record for digital preorders in the United States.
The game has already generated over $630 million in revenue from more than 6.45 million copies sold. Projections suggest that total prepurchases could reach 25 million units, potentially resulting in over $2 billion in revenue before the official launch date.
Platform distribution for these early sales shows a significant lead for Sony's hardware. Currently, 74% of preorders are for the PlayStation 5, while the Xbox Series X|S accounts for 26% of the total, a split attributed to the higher install base of the PS5.
Rockstar Games has scheduled the official release for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. While the initial launch focuses on these consoles, a PC version is expected to follow in early 2027, and the developer is anticipated to eventually introduce a new iteration of GTA Online.
