Key information
Rockstar Games has indicated that Grand Theft Auto 6 is so vast and complex that no single developer, including the project's leadership, possesses full knowledge of every feature and detail contained within the game. This situation is attributed to the massive scale of the project and the long-term involvement of numerous staff members.
The studio draws parallels to Red Dead Redemption 2, where specific details, such as the dynamic shrinking and dilating of horse testicles based on temperature, were implemented by developers without explicit instructions from management. Aaron Garbut, head of development at Rockstar, noted that staff are granted autonomy to include creative elements, leading to hidden features that even supervisors may not discover until release.
Technical adjustments for the upcoming title include narrower roads compared to Grand Theft Auto 5 to enhance traffic realism. Additionally, reports suggest that Rockstar considered removing the weapon wheel but ultimately retained it after failing to find a suitable alternative. These design choices reflect the studio's ongoing efforts to refine the open-world experience.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games has not yet announced a version for PC. The title arrives over thirteen years after its predecessor and is positioned as the most immersive evolution of the series to date.
