The PlayStation 5 jailbreaking community has achieved significant milestones in 2026, moving beyond previous workarounds to bypass the console's ecosystem. While earlier firmware limitations previously shielded upcoming titles, recent developments have shifted the focus toward the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto 6.
Hackers claim that running the upcoming title will necessitate firmware 14.10. On Oct. 20, developers reportedly gained kernel-level access to the console while operating on this specific version. This level of control is theoretically the highest possible, though the developer Gezine has opted to keep the exploit private for the time being.
Despite these technical breakthroughs, significant obstacles remain. Sony previously patched the Hypervisor dumping method following a $50,000 bounty, and there is currently no known way to extract the game files required for emulation. Furthermore, Sony and Rockstar could still modify firmware requirements before the November launch.
While some enthusiasts are motivated by the industry's shift away from physical media, experts suggest it could be months before any functional method to access the game emerges. The current progress represents a meaningful step, yet the future of pirating the title remains uncertain.
