A new software solution hosted on GitHub, titled nvidia-vbios-vix-editor, allows users to bypass the factory-set power limits of NVIDIA graphics cards. While standard overclocking utilities like MSI Afterburner operate within safe parameters, this tool performs BIOS-level adjustments to unlock restricted power values.

The tool utilizes a virtual overlay method rather than traditional firmware flashing. This approach avoids modifying the physical BIOS chip, eliminating the risk of bricking the hardware. Settings are temporary, and the graphics card reverts to its original state upon system reboot.

According to developer Panchovix, the software is compatible with RTX 30, 40, and 50 series cards. Testing indicates that the RTX 5090 power limit can be increased from 600W to 800W, while the RTX 4090 can reach 671W, providing users with expanded overclocking potential.

Despite the lack of software-based risks, the modification introduces significant physical dangers. The RTX 5090 and 4090 utilize 12V-2X6 and 12VHPWR connectors rated for a maximum of 600W. Exceeding these limits risks load imbalances and potential melting of the power cables, necessitating extreme caution.
