Liquid Swords, the developer behind the open-city crime game Samson, has officially filed for bankruptcy. Founder Christofer Sundberg confirmed the closure, noting that while console versions performed better than the PC release, the studio could not overcome market conditions and internal business decisions.

Samson received a mixed reception upon its PC debut, currently holding a 51 aggregate score on Metacritic and a mixed rating on Steam. Sundberg acknowledged that the studio released a flawed product, though he remains proud of the team's efforts during the development process.

Looking ahead, Sundberg plans to launch a new studio focused on sustainability. He intends to utilize a small, experienced team with low running costs to avoid the financial risks that plagued his previous venture. His strategy includes integrating AI for prototyping and testing, though he cautioned against using it as a shortcut, emphasizing that cutting corners often leads to poor results.

Regarding the studio's closure, reports indicated staff had gone unpaid for two months. Sundberg confirmed that employees will be covered by Sweden's wage guarantee, though he declined to comment on additional compensation. He expressed a desire to work with former colleagues in the future.
