Final Fantasy Resonance is a turn-based role-playing game featuring a core mechanic known as Visions. These 26 companions, drawn from the series' history, provide players with new abilities and passive bonuses. During hands-on gameplay, it was observed that these entities differ from traditional Esper summons, which only participate in combat for a limited number of turns.
Players discover Visions at crystal shrines throughout Lapis, where they experience short stories about legendary heroes. Once awakened, these companions can be assigned to main characters like Rain and Lasswell. They offer various spells and attacks while permanently improving base stats such as health and speed. As characters use a specific Vision more frequently, their affinity grows, unlocking further bonuses and specialized skills.
The roster includes 26 iconic figures such as Sephiroth, Terra, Cloud, and Lightning, alongside original characters like Tronn. Each Vision features animations, music, and attacks faithful to their original titles. The most powerful mechanic is the Resonance ability, a cinematic finisher triggered after successfully staggering enemies by depleting their gauge.
The game allows for deep customization, enabling players to build specialists or all-rounders by combining Visions with specific character roles. For instance, pairing a character with a healer Vision can grant support capabilities, while other combinations enhance offensive output. Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled for release on PS5 on October 22, 2026.
