Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy Resonance, a new single-player remake designed to preserve the narrative of the now-defunct live-service title Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius. This project aims to offer the original story and setting to both returning players and newcomers, effectively removing the gacha-based monetization and baggage associated with the previous release.
The game follows the journey of Rain and Laswell, two brothers serving as knights in the world of Lapis. Their routine duties are interrupted when a mysterious warrior destroys the kingdom's Earth crystal, triggering a larger conflict. The protagonists soon discover that armored sentinels are targeting the world's remaining crystals, forcing them to embark on a quest to protect these vital sources of power.
Gameplay features a classic adventure structure, incorporating an expanding party of companions and various narrative twists. While the title largely adheres to the original Brave Exvius plot, it introduces additional exposition and minor detours to flesh out the experience. The developer intends for this version to stand as a complete, standalone narrative.
Despite successfully retelling the saga of Rain and the battle against the Veritas, the game faces certain limitations. According to the publisher's description, these shortcomings prevent the title from reaching the status of a definitive Final Fantasy epic, though the project remains a significant effort to honor the legacy of the original game.
