Final Fantasy Resonance brings the franchise back to its turn-based roots in the world of Lapis. Players control Rain, a knight of Grandshelt, who joins Lasswell and Fina to protect elemental crystals from the antagonistic Veritas. The narrative follows a classic structure of light versus dark, evolving significantly over its 25-hour runtime.

The combat system centers on Visions, which are echoes of past Final Fantasy characters. Players can unlock 26 of these to act as classes for their eight party members. By leveling Visions, players gain permanent stat boosts and can equip specific skills or passives to any character, allowing for deep build customization.

Tactical depth is provided by the Sweeping Stagger mechanic, which rewards players for stunning all enemies with bonus actions and powerful Resonance attacks. While the reviewer notes that Normal difficulty feels too easy, Expert mode requires strategic use of buffs, debuffs, and Summons. However, the reviewer criticizes the game's dungeons as undercooked, short, and straightforward.

The title features Square Enix's signature HD-2D visuals and an excellent musical score. Despite the lackluster dungeon design, the reviewer concludes that the game is a successful reminder of the quality of turn-based Final Fantasy. It is currently available for $79 at JB Hi-Fi.
