Key information

Square Enix has announced that Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the final installment in the remake trilogy, will allow players to select hard mode from the very beginning of the game. Unlike its predecessors, Remake and Rebirth, which required completing the adventure first, this entry enables users to tackle demanding combat scenarios during their initial playthrough.

Director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed in an interview with Hardcore Gamer that the team redesigned the difficulty system to accommodate new strategic tools. The previous restriction preventing item usage in hard mode has been removed, as it no longer aligns with the expanded gameplay possibilities available to the characters.

The game will also feature the return of the dynamic mode seen in Rebirth, which scales enemy strength based on the player's level. Users will have the flexibility to configure combat difficulty and enemy strength settings independently, ensuring a tailored experience throughout the journey.

This structural shift is supported by a focus on post-game content. Rather than requiring a second playthrough to access the highest difficulty, Revelation will offer extensive challenges after the main story concludes. The title is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
