Spanish developer Digital Sun has altered the release strategy for its upcoming title, ReVamp, to prevent potential theft of its mechanics and visual identity. The studio, known for Moonlighter, cited concerns that artificial intelligence could be used to reverse-engineer and clone their work before the official launch.

ReVamp is a fantasy tower defense game featuring roguelite elements and a distinct visual style, currently scheduled for a March 2027 release. Originally, the team planned an open access demo on Steam for late October, but they have now opted for a more controlled approach.

To mitigate risks, Digital Sun will host closed testing sessions via their Discord server, with invitations distributed starting October 29. An open access trial is still planned but has been delayed to a later date. The studio expressed concern that independent developers are losing vital visibility on platforms like Steam due to these security threats.

This trend extends beyond Digital Sun; the Japanese studio Alliance Arts recently canceled the Steam Next Fest demo for Drunken Goddess Reflux. Both developers fear that AI tools significantly lower the barrier for bad actors to replicate unique game concepts and aesthetics without authorization.
