Epic Games has unveiled a preview version of its completely rebuilt Epic Games Store client for Windows, Mac, and, for the first time, Linux. According to the company, the new launcher is designed to be 46% faster than Steam when reaching the store page from a cold start, while its own startup time has been cut in half.

General manager Martin Keely stated that the team developed the store using an entirely new architecture rather than reusing the previous codebase. The development process utilized AI tools to write and review features, aligning with CEO Tim Sweeney's broader strategy for AI acceleration across the company.

The updated design includes a refreshed library view and allows users to add shortcuts for games installed via Steam or other platforms. While Epic claims these technical improvements were verified by an external partner, PC Gamer noted that it had not conducted independent testing of the client at the time of the announcement.

The preview version is currently available for download from the Epic website. The company plans a gradual rollout as it collects user feedback and addresses potential issues. Additionally, Epic is working to update Easy Anti-Cheat to support Fortnite and other multiplayer titles on Linux, though no completion date has been provided.
