Epic Games has released a preliminary version of its completely redesigned PC launcher, which was rebuilt from the ground up to address long-standing performance issues. The new application is currently available for testing on Windows, macOS, and, for the first time, Linux.

According to Martin Keely, vice president and general manager of Epic Games Store, the software utilizes a new architecture for the application, download manager, and store. The development process incorporated artificial intelligence tools, a methodology the company refers to as vibe coding.

Internal tests commissioned by Epic Games indicate the new launcher starts in 5.47 seconds, compared to 10.07 seconds for Steam, representing a 46% improvement. Additionally, the company claims the library loads 30 times faster than the previous version. The application occupies approximately 300 MB and is designed to consume fewer resources while running in the background.

The interface features a cleaner, customizable design with improved library views, search filters, and social functions like voice chat. While the installation replaces the old client, user progress and game data are preserved. Epic Games also confirmed plans to bring Fortnite to Linux, pending adjustments to the Easy Anti-Cheat system, though no final release date is currently set.
