Key information
Supermassive Games has released a free update for Directive 8020: A Dark Pictures Game, introducing a highly requested online cooperative multiplayer mode. This space horror title, which launched on May 12, 2026, is the fifth main entry in The Dark Pictures series.
The new mode allows up to five players to experience the narrative together, provided each participant owns a copy of the game. Gameplay mirrors the local multiplayer experience, where users select specific protagonists and rotate control based on the script. Additional features include the ability to vote on narrative choices and a system to swap control after set intervals, regardless of the active character.
Beyond the multiplayer integration, the update adds 13 new premonitions for players to uncover and provides fresh character outfits. The game remains available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
In a Vandal review, the publication noted that while the game is not terrible, it ultimately left them with the impression that Supermassive Games could and should have delivered a significantly better experience after the long wait.
