Key information
Developer CD Projekt Red has officially confirmed that Hideo Kojima will appear in the upcoming anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2. The Metal Gear Solid creator is set to reprise his role as Hideyoshi Oshima, a character he originally portrayed in the 2020 video game Cyberpunk 2077.
In the original game, players could encounter Kojima’s character sitting near a bar at Konpeki Plaza. The role involves the director discussing braindances, an in-universe technology used for memory exploration. Kojima noted that his character aspires to capture complex, realistic human emotions within his productions.
IGN awarded the second season a 9/10 rating, describing the series as "Amazing." Reviewers noted that the show successfully delivers gory, action-packed sequences, though they observed that it does not quite reach the same heights as the first season.
All 10 episodes of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 are scheduled to premiere on October 20, 2026. While Kojima is currently developing titles such as Physint and OD, this cameo marks one of the anime projects he recently teased.
