Key information

Renowned game creator Kotaro Uchikoshi, known for the Zero Escape and AI: The Somnium Files series, has officially announced the formation of his new studio, CRASH KEYS. Established in March 2025, the studio focuses on game planning, direction, and screenwriting, alongside animation and multimedia content production.

The announcement follows the sudden cancellation of a project Uchikoshi and his team had been developing for approximately one and a half years. Uchikoshi noted that while he cannot disclose the specific title, he believes fans would have been highly enthusiastic about it. He clarified that he remains a member of Too Kyo Games, describing the new venture as a form of separation to pursue independent business goals.

Uchikoshi suggested that shifting industry landscapes, specifically regarding AI integration, may have indirectly influenced the project's fate. He argued that while AI is often viewed as a threat to jobs, failing to utilize it for cost-efficiency can also lead to project cancellations. He emphasized that AI could handle repetitive tasks, potentially allowing teams to maintain staffing levels while reducing development time.

CRASH KEYS is currently seeking investment partners to support its original projects. The studio's website features cryptic messages and references to the Zero Escape series, such as "RHIZOME-9," sparking speculation among fans regarding potential ARG elements or future series connections, though these remain unconfirmed by the studio.
