Finnish Counter-Strike 2 professional Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen is currently facing legal scrutiny regarding allegations of aggravated tax fraud. Prosecutors at the Eastern Uusimaa District Court claim the player failed to declare income earned from in-game sticker sales during 2020.
The indictment, presented on Friday, October 16, alleges that Virolainen did not report €53,000 in revenue received from Valve. Authorities estimate this omission allowed him to avoid paying approximately €28,000 in taxes. These virtual items, which are popular in the CS2 ecosystem, often generate revenue for professional players during major tournament cycles.
Virolainen has pleaded not guilty to the charges. His defense argues that at 22 years old, he lacked understanding of the tax system and believed his obligations were satisfied through general income deductions. He maintains that he did not intentionally seek financial gain by failing to report the specific earnings.
Prosecutors are seeking a four-month suspended prison sentence for the player. As the case remains ongoing, the district court has yet to issue a formal ruling. Virolainen, now 29 and representing Natus Vincere, has not provided a public statement regarding the situation.
