Grand Theft Auto 6, scheduled for release in November, centers on the dynamic between protagonists Jason and Lucia. Rockstar Games has designed a system where their bond can flourish or decline based on player interactions, such as responding to mobile messages. The game features intimate scenes and allows players to trigger actions like holding hands or kissing.

Players are not forced to engage with these romantic mechanics. According to Rockstar North codirector Rob Nelson, players act as guardians of the pair's relationship. While the characters will support each other during critical moments regardless of player choice, actively fostering their connection is intended to enhance the overall gameplay experience.

The depth of these interactions has prompted public debate regarding digital infidelity. A YouGov survey of 4,000 British adults found that 6% consider virtual relationships in games to be cheating, while 19% disapprove of the practice despite not labeling it as betrayal. Women were found to be more critical of such interactions than men.

This discourse extends beyond academic surveys. Social media users have previously expressed concerns that the game's detailed mechanics could justify real-world relationship terminations. Some individuals on platforms like TikTok have stated they would forbid their partners from playing the title, citing the perceived realism of the simulated romance.
