ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent have reportedly placed orders for over 3 million Nvidia RTX Pro 5500 workstation GPUs, totaling approximately $35 billion. These units are currently compliant with U.S. export restrictions, making them a critical resource for Chinese firms aiming to advance their artificial intelligence capabilities.

The RTX Pro 5500 features 84GB of GDDR7 memory and shares the same CUDA core count as the flagship RTX 5090. While less powerful than enterprise-focused models like the H200 or B300, which face strict export bans, the RTX Pro 5500 has become a primary alternative for Chinese companies navigating current trade limitations.

Despite the scale of the demand, Nvidia has indicated it cannot fulfill these requests. Sources suggest that the company may only be able to deliver between 5% and 10% of the ordered volume, as the total request significantly exceeds Nvidia's planned global production capacity for the card in 2027.

Neither Nvidia nor the involved Chinese corporations have officially confirmed these reports. However, an Nvidia spokesperson noted that demand from the Chinese market has experienced unprecedented growth since 2022, exacerbated by a complex landscape of U.S. export controls and domestic import limitations.
