At the Paley International Summit in New York, Sony president Hiroki Totoki and Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick stated that artificial intelligence will not replace human creativity in game development. Both leaders view AI as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for human ingenuity.
Totoki emphasized that creativity belongs to humans, noting that Sony encourages teams to utilize technology while strictly respecting the rights of artists and creators. Meanwhile, Zelnick argued that while AI cannot replicate human innovation, professionals who ignore these tools risk falling behind their competitors.
Zelnick explained that AI relies on historical data, which limits its ability to generate the unexpected breakthroughs that define true creativity. He cited the 1990 film Home Alone as an example of a success that could not have been predicted by analyzing past data sets.
Despite these stances, both companies incorporate AI into internal processes. Notably, Zelnick previously confirmed that GTA 6 does not employ generative AI for its content creation. This discussion occurs amid ongoing industry concerns regarding job security and the preservation of human expression in games.
