Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has pledged to maintain physical game production for as long as possible. This commitment comes despite reports that PlayStation is considering ending physical disc production by 2028.
Babieno acknowledges that digital distribution is more cost-effective and profitable for the studio. However, he emphasizes that physical collections foster an emotional connection between players and developers, a sentiment shared by Broken Mirror Games director Tymon Smektala, who noted that collecting games was a significant part of their upbringing.
The discussion regarding physical media coincides with the development of Onyx: The Dark Grip, a horror title from Bloober and Broken Mirror Games. The game is planned as a third-party exclusive for the Switch 2, designed specifically for handheld mode, which has sparked further debate about the value of physical releases on the platform.
These statements reflect the studio's personal preferences rather than a guaranteed policy for every future release. The feasibility of continued physical production remains dependent on future manufacturing capabilities, even as the company recognizes the clear business advantages offered by digital-only distribution models.
