AMD has officially released FSR 4.1, extending its advanced upscaling technology to a broader range of hardware. Radeon executive Jack Hyunh announced that the update now supports Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards, Xbox Series X and S consoles, Ryzen Z-series handhelds, and systems equipped with Ryzen AI Max and AI 9 processors.
To enable this compatibility, AMD modified the FSR 4.1 neural network to utilize INT8 shader hardware instead of the FP8 matrix acceleration required by newer RX 9000 cards. Furthermore, a specialized, lightweight version of the software has been developed for handheld devices, reducing its footprint to less than half the size of the standard implementation.
Testing on a Radeon RX 6900 XT in Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K resolution showed a 13% performance cost when using FSR 4. However, the company claims the technology provides superior image quality and stability compared to FSR 3. Additionally, the update improves frame pacing for FSR Frame Generation and introduces FSR Ray Regeneration support for titles like Warhammer 40,000: Darktide.
PC users can access these features via the new Radeon 26.10.1 drivers available through the AMD Adrenalin application or the company's website. Owners of Xbox consoles and Ryzen Z2-series handhelds must wait for forthcoming updates from their respective manufacturers to receive the necessary driver support.
