AMD has officially announced the rollout of its FSR 4.1 upscaling technology, which will arrive on Xbox Series X and Series S consoles soon. Developed in close collaboration with the Xbox team, this update aims to improve gaming performance across various devices, including handhelds and older GPUs.
The new FSR 4.1 iteration is optimized for Ryzen AI 9 and Z2 Extreme chips, achieving half the weight of the original INT8 model. AMD reports that on the ROG Xbox Ally X, the game The Blood of Dawnwalker saw performance increase from 54 FPS to 63 FPS when switching from FSR 3.1 to 4.1.
Looking toward the future, AMD introduced FSR Diamond, a forthcoming upscaling and frame generation technology. This version is set to debut alongside Project Helix, the next generation of Xbox hardware. Scott Van Vliet, Xbox's chief technology officer, stated that this platform is designed to reach players wherever they are.
FSR 4.1 also brings support for Vulkan, extending performance benefits to Linux and SteamOS titles. Additionally, the technology is compatible with AMD RX 6000 series graphics cards, where the manufacturer claims it provides cleaner movement and more detail compared to previous versions.
