AMD has officially announced that its FSR 4.1 AI upscaling technology is expanding beyond Radeon 7000 and 9000 series graphics cards to include additional hardware, most notably the Xbox Series X console.
The technology utilizes AI to upscale lower-resolution inputs to native quality. While previously limited by high computational demands, AMD SVP of Gaming and Graphics Jack Huynh stated that the company successfully optimized the model to run efficiently on hardware lacking the specific AI accelerators found in RDNA 4 graphics cards.
This development follows the recent introduction of QSSR, a slimmed-down version of PSSR 2 for the base PlayStation 5. While AMD has confirmed FSR 4.1 is coming to Xbox Series X, the company has only stated it is arriving "soon," leaving the exact release timeline uncertain.
Looking ahead, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirmed that AMD's next-generation FSR, codenamed "Diamond," is planned for the Project Helix family of devices. These advancements aim to improve performance and image quality, potentially aiding demanding titles like the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6.
