AMD has officially announced that its FSR 4.1 AI upscaling technology is expanding beyond Radeon 7000 and 9000 graphics cards to include the Xbox Series X. This update aims to bring advanced image reconstruction to the console platform.
The technology utilizes AI to upscale lower-resolution inputs to native quality. While previously limited by high computational demands, AMD SVP Jack Huynh confirmed that the company successfully optimized the model to run efficiently on hardware lacking the specific AI accelerators found in RDNA 4 graphics cards.
This development follows the recent introduction of QSSR for the base PlayStation 5, a slimmed-down version of PSSR 2. While AMD has stated the FSR 4.1 update for Xbox is coming soon, no specific release date has been provided, leaving uncertainty regarding its availability for upcoming major game launches.
Looking ahead, Xbox CTO Scott Van Vliet confirmed that the next-generation FSR, codenamed Diamond, is planned for Project Helix. With CEO Asha Sharma identifying Helix as a family of devices, the company intends to continue its collaboration with AMD to integrate these upscaling solutions across its hardware ecosystem.
