The Steam Next Fest event has seen a surge in titles created using artificial intelligence, raising concerns about intellectual property theft. Among the affected projects is the Thai-developed game Lost and Found Co., which has reportedly been targeted by a copycat title.
Natachanan Lumpikanon, the director of Lost and Found Co., reported that community members alerted him to a Chinese-developed game on Steam that mimics his work. The developer noted that the clone features a logo and font style strikingly similar to his own game.
The suspicious title utilizes a hidden-object gameplay loop identical to Lost and Found Co. While the store page claims the maps were handcrafted, it explicitly states that the characters, buildings, and various assets were generated using AI tools.
This trend of AI-assisted cloning is causing significant anxiety within the gaming industry. Many developers are now hesitant to release demos, fearing that their concepts will be replicated and sold by others before their own official launches. The industry currently faces uncertainty regarding potential platform-level regulations to address these AI-driven practices.
