Shueisha Games has officially launched a playable demo for the PC title Hon to Kagi no Kisetsu. This drama-like adventure game is based on the novel by Honobu Yonezawa, the author known for the Hyouka series. The story follows two high school library committee members, Jiro Horikawa, voiced by Kazuki Ura, and Shimon Matsukura, voiced by Yuichiro Umehara, as they investigate various mysteries.
The game features a unique presentation style that blends reading and viewing experiences. Unlike traditional visual novels, it omits character sprites and utilizes full-screen text displays to immerse players in the narrative. Gameplay involves point-and-click elements alongside a specific deduction mechanic where players must insert keywords into text to solve puzzles.
Development is handled by iMel, with Nozomu Umihara from Liar-soft, known for titles like Ever Maiden and Adabana Odd Tales, designing the deduction segments. The current demo allows players to experience the first chapter, titled 913, which centers on the protagonists attempting to open a safe left behind by a deceased grandfather.
The full version of the game is currently scheduled for release this winter. As of the latest announcement, the final pricing for the title remains undecided.
