Koei Tecmo and Toho Games have announced their first console title based on the series, The Apothecary Diaries: The False Imperial Brother. The game is scheduled for release on March 18, 2027.
Featuring an original story conceived by author Natsu Hyuga, the plot follows the apothecary Maomao as she investigates the Five Great Mysteries within the imperial palace. Following the suppression of the Shi clan rebellion, Maomao becomes entangled in a new series of events involving rumors of the Fivefold Curse and the appearance of a mysterious masked imperial brother.
Gameplay mechanics involve using pharmaceutical knowledge to investigate, gather evidence, and negotiate. Players can control Maomao, Jinshi, or Maomao to uncover unique information. Additionally, players can interact with characters by delivering requested items to increase affinity and unlock side stories. The medicine preparation system features mini-games where characters like Lakan or Luomen may assist, impacting the difficulty level.
The title introduces original characters such as the actor Kanyu, the high-ranking official Yanxi, and the regular patron Chenhan. The game will be available on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam.
