Developer ixavon and publisher Tailtone Games have launched a free demo for their upcoming psychological horror title, Bedrotting Simulator, on Steam. The game, which supports Traditional Chinese, tasks players with surviving a nightmare that blends isolation, internet-based mystery, and the pressures of a long-distance relationship.
The gameplay centers on a small apartment where players must investigate the mysterious disappearance of a friend named Sarah. By analyzing encrypted posts, strange videos, and suspicious messages on a computer, players piece together the truth. Simultaneously, they must manage their relationship with a girlfriend who sends constant messages, forcing players to choose between maintaining their romance or focusing on survival tasks.
Survival mechanics require players to fortify their living space against an encroaching entity. During the night, players must gather tools, board up doors, and set traps to prevent the intruder from entering. Because time is limited, players face the constant dilemma of prioritizing relationship maintenance over essential survival preparations, as neglecting the girlfriend can lead to a breakup.
The game utilizes a first-person perspective with a retro VHS aesthetic to heighten the sense of dread within the apartment. As the environment becomes increasingly unsettling, players must navigate the tension of being trapped while balancing investigation, resource management, and social obligations. The demo is currently available for players to experience these conflicting pressures firsthand.
