Auroch Digital and Big Fan Games have released Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2, the sequel to their retro-styled first-person shooter based on the Warhammer 40,000 miniature game. The narrative picks up directly after the events of the first title, tasking players with thwarting the evil plans of the demigod Vashtorr the Arkifane, whose explosion devastated the Imperial fleet.
The game retains the fast-paced combat and retro aesthetic of its predecessor while introducing new weapons, enemies, and execution methods. Players can choose between two playable characters: the returning Ultramarine Malum Caedo or the new Battle Sister Nyra Vayrus. Each character features unique combat styles and armaments, with Vayrus focusing on swift blade attacks, while Caedo continues his heavy-hitting approach.
The experience is enhanced by a heavy original soundtrack featuring guitar and drum-focused tracks. Notably, the game includes new music composed by Mick Gordon, known for his work on DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal, to heighten the intensity of the action.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is currently available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It is priced at 3,150 yen. The title aims to be accessible to series newcomers while providing deep lore and challenging foes for long-time fans of the 41st millennium setting.
