Key information
Microsoft announced on October 21 that it has initiated a test allowing Xbox Insider Program members without a Game Pass subscription to purchase streaming time for Xbox Cloud Gaming. This trial serves as a precursor to broader service changes scheduled for November.
The new model enables users to stream games they own directly. Unlike a previous free, ad-supported testing phase that began in July, this current iteration offers ad-free gameplay. Purchased time remains valid until fully consumed and includes benefits such as reduced wait times and high-quality streaming performance.
These adjustments follow a September announcement regarding service modifications set for November 2026. Microsoft cited rising operational costs as the primary driver for implementing monthly playtime caps for Game Pass subscribers and introducing purchase options for additional hours.
Availability of these features, including specific pricing, supported titles, and purchasing methods, may vary based on individual account eligibility, device type, and preview ring participation. The company is currently offering 10 hours of access starting at 3.99 dollars for participants in this initial test.
