Xbox executive Asha Sharma has confirmed that the company is prioritizing the development of new intellectual properties alongside its established franchises. During an internal Town Hall meeting, Sharma identified the creation of original games as a critical component for the division's future strategy.
The company aims to expand its leading series while simultaneously cultivating new brands designed to reach diverse audiences. This dual approach is being implemented as part of a broader restructuring of the Xbox content portfolio, which involves balancing investments across both existing and new creative projects.
Significant organizational changes accompany this strategic shift. Reports indicate that the Halo franchise has moved under Activision's leadership, while Obsidian has been assigned a new Fallout project under Bethesda. Furthermore, studios such as Double Fine, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion Games have departed the organization, with Compulsion Games now operating independently.
While Sharma outlined these strategic ambitions, the reports from outlets including Videogames Chronicle, Windows Central, and GamesRadar note that no specific new projects or release timelines were disclosed during the meeting.
