Key information
At the Roblox Developers Conference 2026, Roblox officials and creators discussed the platform's updated discovery algorithm. The new system extends the evaluation window from 7 to 28 days, segmenting performance into Day 1, Day 2-7, and Day 8-28. This change prevents short-term spikes from masking long-term engagement.
The algorithm prioritizes retention over monetization. While signals like play time and Robux spent remain, Roblox introduced two new entry metrics: click-through rates from home recommendations and immediate churn rates. These metrics filter out titles that fail to deliver on their thumbnail promises.
Voldex executive Andrew Rose highlighted that "Brookhaven RP" maintains top-10 revenue despite low monetization pressure. Its success stems from massive long-term retention; approximately 90% of its revenue originates from players active for over 30 days. Rose noted that deep monetization is only sustainable when built upon deep, consistent player retention.
To boost retention, Roblox is enhancing social features, including global chat, AI-driven message moderation, and platform-integrated leaderboards. Creator Nick Roberts emphasized that designing spaces where players naturally congregate, such as the pier in "Fisch," fosters relationships that keep users returning. Roberts advised developers to implement friend-invite APIs and dedicated servers for new players to prevent early churn.
