Jason Jones, the co-creator of the Halo and Destiny franchises, has launched a new multimedia project centered on a fictional narrative about an AI uprising. The story, titled An Oral History of Humanity’s Final Invention, is presented as an oral history featuring approximately 100 characters across 40 countries. Jones developed the concept with author Margaret Stohl, with whom he previously worked at Bungie.
To develop this sci-fi universe, the pair founded Stone Kite, a "worldbuilding studio" designed to produce content across multiple formats. The studio currently employs 22 in-house staff and manages a network of over 250 contributors, including screenwriters and comic book artists. The project aims to be platform-agnostic, allowing the story to evolve through feedback before potentially expanding into larger-scale productions like films or games.
Stone Kite has begun its rollout with a four-part graphic novel titled One Zero One and has released an excerpt from Jones’ original manuscript. Stohl noted that the decision to publish this specific chapter, which depicts an airsoft battle between humans and AI-powered bots, was influenced by its perceived relevance to current developments in agentic AI behavior, which she described as a "worst mirror of humanity."
