Key information
Liquid Swords CEO Christofer Sundberg officially confirmed the studio's closure on October 20, 2026, following a bankruptcy filing. The decision follows reports that the developer faced an acute liquidity shortage and that employees had gone unpaid for two months.
Sundberg attributed the company's failure to difficult market conditions and poor business decisions. He noted that the performance of the studio's debut title, Samson, which launched in April, was insufficient to sustain the business. As of October 14, 2026, the game had sold 151,900 copies, generating SEK 24.1 million, or $2.4 million, in revenue.
The bankruptcy process involves the dismissal of all 27 employees. According to the studio's administrator, the Swedish law firm Cirio, staff contracts will not transfer to any potential buyer. While the Swedish state wage guarantee will cover unpaid salaries, the bidding window for the studio's assets, including the intellectual property for Samson, concludes on October 21, 2026.
Despite the closure, Sundberg expressed pride in the team's work and stated that discussions are ongoing regarding the future support of Samson. Looking ahead, the founder plans to establish a new studio, intending to apply lessons learned from this experience to ensure better long-term sustainability.
