Developer One More Level has announced that its new first-person Soulslike title, Valor Mortis, reached a break-even point just seven days after its release. This milestone indicates that the production costs for the game have been fully recovered, with future sales now contributing to profit for the studio and publisher Lyrical Games.
The game distinguishes itself through fluid combat and parkour mechanics. In a review for Eurogamer, Matt Wales commended the title for its exhilarating sense of momentum, which influences the level design, boss encounters, and weapon-based gameplay, noting that it successfully expands upon traditional Soulslike conventions.
The project's success is notable given the crowded release window, which included major titles like GTA 6, Control Resonant, and Silent Hill Townfall. To navigate this competition, the developer priced the game at £40/$40 and delayed its original September 24th launch date to avoid direct conflicts with other high-profile releases.
Valor Mortis is currently available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, and it is also included on Game Pass. Regarding potential future content or updates, the developer has confirmed that they are currently working on patches and DLC.
