Data center expansion is significantly tightening the global memory supply, with long-term agreements locking up a vast majority of Samsung's future production. According to the Korean investment firm KB Securities, 80% of Samsung's memory output for 2027 is already secured through these contracts.
The impact on specialized hardware is particularly severe, as 100% of Samsung's High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) output is committed to yearly agreements. KB Securities projects that the average selling price for this HBM technology will surge by 100% to 150% year-over-year, driven largely by demand from AI-focused data centers.
These supply constraints are expected to create a ripple effect throughout the consumer market. Analysts anticipate a double-digit quarter-over-quarter price increase for commodity DRAM and NAND memory following the upcoming new year, as hyperscalers compete for the remaining 20% of available supply.
Despite recent volatility in semiconductor stocks and a 19% share price decline for Samsung, KB Securities maintains that the company's earnings growth remains secure. The firm projects a 57% year-over-year increase in operating profit for 2027, reaching 555 trillion Korean won, or over $4 billion.
