Konami Digital Entertainment will release Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse on October 15, 2026, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. Developed by Evil Empire and Motion Twin, this latest entry in the 40-year-old franchise follows Rose Belmont, daughter of Trevor, as she explores a dangerous castle in 1499 Paris. Unlike previous protagonists, Rose is an inexperienced hunter struggling with a curse and feelings of inadequacy.
The game features challenging exploration-based mechanics combined with high-difficulty platforming reminiscent of early series titles. Players utilize the Arcana Whip for movement, employing pendulum swings and rapid impulses to navigate treacherous, trap-filled environments. Additionally, the Holy Light ability is essential for neutralizing shifting walls known as Chaos Shards, requiring precise timing to avoid instant failure.
Combat emphasizes tactical variety, offering seven weapon categories and a unique system where defeated bosses become "Arcana" cards. These cards provide magical spells that can be upgraded through specific in-game challenges. While the game is notoriously difficult, it includes a customizable mode allowing players to adjust damage, disable traps, or enable respawns, though platforming sections remain strictly manual.
The title balances classic series nostalgia with new historical motifs, such as characters inspired by Joan of Arc. Despite the high stakes and punishing difficulty, the developer encourages players to experience the game's intense, rewarding challenge firsthand before utilizing accessibility options.
