The OSAKA INDIE GAMES SUMMIT 2026, held on October 3 and 4, 2026, at Congress Square Grand Green Osaka, showcased several experimental titles featuring unconventional controllers. These projects often prioritize physical interaction, with some designed exclusively for event play.
Among the highlights was "Shu-Pero," a VR game where players lick a beast-person character to score points. Originally a student project from HAL Osaka, it is currently being refined for a commercial release. Another standout, "Udon Pusher" by Sanuki GameN, utilizes a real noodle-cutting knife as a controller. Players manipulate the knife to push noodles into a medal-game-style machine, with additional mini-games requiring precise movements that can be physically demanding.
Other exhibits included "Conductus," a music game using a custom arcade-style controller that tracks hand movements via camera, and "Door Rider," which uses two physical door knobs for navigation. Additionally, "Putter King" by Takahiro Miyazawa allows players to use a Joy-Con as a putter for mini-golf, while "BE Ninja" uses camera tracking to recognize hand signs for casting spells.
These titles emphasize the unique, hands-on nature of indie game events. While some developers, such as the creators of "Udon Pusher," consider potential console ports, many of these projects remain specialized experiences that thrive in a public, interactive setting.
