Final Fantasy Resonance features a roster of eight recruitable party members. Players must progress through the main story campaign to unlock these allies, as each character joins the group upon completing specific narrative segments.
Combat parties are limited to four active characters, though all members earn experience and mastery points regardless of whether they participate in a specific battle. Each character is assigned a pre-determined role, with stat progressions tailored to specific functions like magic or physical damage.
Characters like Rain serve as physical tanks, while others like Fina provide healing and esper summoning. Nichol acts as a synergist for party buffs, and Archwitch Fina functions as a debuffer. Sakura and Jake are primarily damage dealers, with Sakura specializing in elemental magic.
Recruitment occurs across different chapters. Rain, Lasswell, Fina, and Lid are introduced early, while Nichol, Jake, Archwitch Fina, and Sakura join during the third chapter, Wardens of the Aquapolis.
