Max Miller, the creator of the YouTube series Tasting History, is collaborating with designer Michael Shinall and publisher Salt Games to release a new tabletop adaptation. The project, which functions as a worker-placement game, officially launched on Kickstarter this week.
In this game, participants act as chefs who gather ingredients from various locations to prepare historically accurate recipes. Players host parties and advance through different eras, observing how culinary offerings evolve over time.
The base game includes three distinct historical periods: ancient Rome, medieval Europe, and the American Frontier. Each era features 25 unique recipes and specific historical events. The experience is designed for 1-5 players and lasts approximately 60-90 minutes across five rounds, with each player managing four chefs.
Players utilize six main board locations to acquire necessary ingredients or obtain Insight cards. According to Shinall, these cards provide strategic advantages, such as granting free resources, bonus victory points, or special abilities that allow players to bypass standard rules under specific conditions.
