The independent studio Easy Fox is facing a severe financial crisis due to the unexpected viral success of its Steam demo, Conduite Accompagnée : Ma sœur. The game, a chaotic driving simulator where players use voice commands to instruct a virtual sister, relies on cloud-based Large Language Models to process interactions in real time.
Because the game processes every player instruction through external AI APIs, the surge in users has caused operating costs to skyrocket to over $1,000 per day. To keep the servers running until the full release in January 2027, the four-person team was forced to take out an emergency bank loan.
The transition from Google’s Gemini to OpenAI as a temporary measure has introduced significant technical issues. Players report artificial dialogue, high latency, and execution errors, such as the character performing incorrect maneuvers. These malfunctions have negatively impacted the overall user experience.
To mitigate these costs and technical hurdles, Easy Fox plans to restore stable access to Gemini and eventually implement local AI execution. This shift would allow players with powerful hardware to process the AI locally, reducing reliance on expensive cloud infrastructure.
