Krafton is venturing beyond its flagship title, PUBG: Battlegrounds, with a new project titled Ded.Net. According to creative director Dave Curd, the game aims to evolve the battle royale genre by moving away from traditional military themes in favor of fast-paced gameplay, dark humor, and roguelite mechanics.

The game introduces a persistent progression system where abilities and upgrades acquired during matches influence subsequent rounds. Players can modify their characters, such as replacing arms with blades, which introduces both tactical advantages and specific survival limitations. This design intends to mitigate frustration by providing fresh objectives after losses.

Mechanics include absurd features like transforming into a porcelain doll, riding on enemies, and hacking environmental elements to trigger explosions. Vehicles also feature a seatbelt mechanic; failing to buckle up before a crash results in the player being ejected, a nod to emergent gameplay moments from the original PUBG.

Despite these innovations, the project faces skepticism due to Krafton's recent track record. The studio shuttered three titles in 2026: the mobile game Abyss of Dungeons, the tactical shooter PUBG: Blindspot, and the unreleased extraction shooter PUBG: Black Budget. It remains uncertain if Ded.Net will succeed where these previous efforts failed.
