City Connection is developing "Ninja Baseball Batman - Basis Loaded," a remake of the 1993 Irem arcade classic. The project aims to modernize the beloved beat-'em-up while preserving its original charm. According to CEO Nobuhiro Yoshikawa, the remake serves as a strategic first step toward expanding the franchise, with the team expressing a firm commitment to developing a sequel if this project achieves commercial success.
The remake introduces 3D lighting, normal maps, and emission maps to enhance visual depth while maintaining the original aesthetic. Director Kei Watanabe noted that the team increased animation patterns for smoother movement. The game will support local four-player co-op and remote play across platforms. Additionally, a new playable character, Ruri (Pink League Man), joins the roster, offering a versatile playstyle centered on her pom-pom weapon.
Development faced challenges regarding resource allocation and licensing, requiring collaboration with G.rev and NADA HOLDINGS. Yoshikawa acted as a bridge between Irem and original creator Drew to secure necessary materials. The team is targeting a global release, including North America and Europe, hoping to establish the characters as a significant presence in the Western market.
