Multiple sources indicate that a new Star Wars: Battlefront title is currently in development. This project reportedly involves a collaboration between DICE, known for the Battlefield series, and Respawn, the studio behind Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi.

EA executives recently confirmed in a staff memo that DICE and Respawn are working together on a new project, though they did not explicitly identify the title. This follows earlier rumors from Electronic Gaming Monthly regarding Disney seeking a developer for a third entry in the series.

The previous series entry, Battlefront 2, launched in 2017 to mixed reception. It faced significant backlash for implementing loot boxes that tied character progression to random chance, a controversy that triggered global legislative scrutiny regarding gambling mechanics in games.

DICE eventually overhauled these systems and removed loot boxes, improving player sentiment before ending support in 2020. If released, Battlefront 3 would be the first series entry published by EA following its $55bn acquisition by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners.
