Blizzard has clarified that the prohibition of GDKP, known as gold-based loot bidding, is restricted to North American and European servers for World of Warcraft: Forever. According to an interview with 4Gamers, Associate Production Director Clay Stone confirmed that regions outside of North America and Europe will continue to permit these gold-based loot distribution methods.
GDKP involves players bidding gold for items dropped by raid bosses, with the proceeds distributed among participants. Developers previously stated in a September 17 Q&A that they intended to ban this practice to prevent the weakening of guild-centric raiding and to discourage new players from purchasing external gold to compete in bids.
Stone noted that the regional scope of this policy had not been officially clarified until now. He emphasized that the development team has not retracted the ban, but rather specified that the restriction applies exclusively to North American and European territories.
To mitigate the need for gold farming, the developers are increasing gold availability compared to the original game version. This adjustment aims to ensure players can cover raid participation and consumable costs through standard gameplay, reducing the reliance on external gold acquisition.
