Key information

RGG Studio has unveiled Stranger Than Heaven, a title chronicling the 50-year life of protagonist Makoto Daito. The game spans various eras and locations, including 1915 San Francisco and 1943 Osaka, offering a mix of narrative-driven exploration and diverse gameplay systems.

The combat system utilizes dual-limb controls, where shoulder buttons and triggers manage the left and right sides of Daito’s body independently. Players can engage in unarmed brawls or utilize weapons like sledgehammers for crowd control, though these heavier tools come with longer recovery times. Proficiency levels and new moves can be developed through gameplay, while health and spirit attributes improve via daily activities like reading or walking.

Beyond fighting, players manage show business productions by composing music and organizing live events. Composing requires collecting Inspiration from environmental sounds, which can then be arranged with different instruments. During performances, players select cast members and manage stage effects, with success relying on strategic planning rather than rhythm-based reflexes.

Stranger Than Heaven is scheduled for release on PlayStation 5 on Friday, January 15, 2027.
