The survival game Once Human is set to receive its largest free expansion, Isles of Abyss, on PlayStation 5 on October 22. This update shifts the gameplay focus to uncharted oceanic regions, where players must navigate a living sea known as The Sunken Lord.
Players begin with a basic raft but can upgrade it into a customizable mobile Sea Fortress. These vessels function as mobile bases, workshops, and artillery platforms, allowing for diverse designs ranging from pirate ships to industrial rigs. Players can coordinate with friends to form fleets to combat dynamic threats like black tides and temporal fire.
The expansion introduces a progression loop connecting land and sea. Resources from islands support naval technology, while deep-sea exploration provides materials for terrestrial gear. Players can also dive into underwater ruins to harvest resources and hunt for treasure.
The PlayStation 5 version utilizes DualSense haptic feedback to simulate environmental effects like storms and the heartbeat of the ocean.
