Key information
Publishers Shochiku Games and rokaplay Select announced that Mipumi Games’ A Game About Digging A Hole Together will release on December 4. The title will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with a day-one inclusion on Xbox Game Pass. The game supports Japanese language display.
This sequel to the hit digging game expands the experience by introducing support for up to four-player online cooperative play. While the original title was a single-player experience, the new entry allows friends to dig together across a beach setting. The game also features cross-platform play, enabling users to coordinate their efforts to excavate wide areas or focus on specific spots.
Core mechanics involve using excavators to collect ores like coal, iron, and silver, which are sold to fund equipment upgrades. Players can choose from four tool categories to improve digging speed and hole size. Additionally, the game introduces a collection system where discovered items, such as a black telephone or a toy excavator, can be displayed in a tent.
Mipumi Games rebuilt the system from scratch to ensure stability and implement multiplayer features. The developer utilized voxel and excavation technologies derived from the project Solarpunk: Island of the Sky. This collaboration follows the massive success of the original game, which sold over 1 million copies after its February 7, 2025 release.
